GoogleMod is a simple web interface that shows Google search results in a more compact format, for easy review of how certain phrases are being used on the Internet.
Some special query symbols, provided by Google but not widely known, will prove very useful if used with GoogleMod:
- * (star) matches any one or more words
- | (pipe) is an OR operator; A|B means either A or B
- - (minus) immediately followed by a word excludes search results containing that word; needs a space before to distinguish it from a hyphen
Some example queries using the special symbols above - click to run:
- to * a meeting
- a|an * rumor
- * has it that
- "* has it that" -rumor|rumour|legend
- "* has it that" -rumor -rumour -legend
- *한 실력을
- 실력의 *을|를
- 실력을 *할|한|하는
(#4 and #5 mean the same and produce similar results.)
Options:
- Show [ ] results: Number of results to show in one page. Maximum allowed value is 100, limited by Google.
- Add quotes: Automatically enclose the query in double quotes before submission, selected by default
- Hyphenate: Replace all spaces in the query with hyphens(-). This sometimes returns different, somewhat more diverse results - not sure about the logic.
- Search PDF only: Confine search to PDF files, to limit results to those occurring in perhaps more formal contexts.
- Print whole sentence: Try to print whole sentences only
